Day 1 - Referees briefing, fitness test, opening ceremony

Hi blog followers,

Once again its almost 11pm but tonight everyone is in bed, apart from Paul Jenkins and myself. Paul's still working on who his going to look at tommorrow for coaching, I'm trying to get Picasa to upload the 100+ photos I took today.

Heres a rundown on the days events.
Early start for some, catching the last of the USA -v- Germany game. Breakfast was good, eggs and toast, ceral. Coaches went to a early meeting with Clive, State Coach for ACT, followed by the referees and into 1 hour of briefing on the ins and outs of the tournment.

The Beep test was fun (not) with everyone giving their best efforts. Over 18s best was Sam Nixon with 13.9 and U/18's was Jakob Lewis-Peters with 12.6

A excellent BBQ lunch was consumed and back for another 1.5 hours of he first technical session with David Kurthi, including a theory test - 4 recieved perfect scores out of 20, but none of the coaches!!!!!

Back to the BCL for a quick changed into nice gear for the walkin to the Opening Ceremony, with many excited officials carrying the Fifa Fair Play flag - thanks and big shoutout to Scott Ferguson, now in WA but formly the engine that ran the referees HQ for many years who loaned it to me for the opening.

Opening ceremony was ok, apart from the Capital Football President forgetting to mention the referees involvement in her opening speech. I'll give her a pass, its her first Kanga in charge, but it wasn't well received when everyone else was mentioned. The MC was able to rescue her a bit by indicating that the Referees group have referees from WA, meaning every state was infact represented.
The Korean women's national anthem was quiet, but the pomp pomp girl acrobatic display was the highlight.

Paul added that the Haka was missed from years past, but the show was quick and we got back in time for dinner.

More updates tommorrow on the highly entertaining session from Ben Wilson, FIFA Referee and Paul Smith. Must get some sleep.....

Check the Picasa link, when its uploaded for pictures...
